National
Affordable Housing Preservation Associates (NAHPA) announces new
LITC initiatives!!
NAHPA has announced that it will apply for a matching grant from
the Internal Revenue Service to establish and operate a Low Income
Tax Clinic (LITC), beginning in 2009. The purpose of a LITC is
to provide direct or indirect tax assistance to persons with low
incomes, or who speak English as their second language.
The targeted audience would include the elderly, young families
with low incomes, and Latinos or Hispanics, among others.
The grant for these efforts is largely dependent on matching funds
applicants have to contribute.
The
award of the LITC grants takes into consideration many factors,
such as the population we serve, geographical issues, quality
of services and programs to be offered and other factors.
While we are hopeful and optimistic that we will be awarded a
grant, we are committed to moving forward to help you help your
tenants regardless of the outcome of our application.
Our concept of an LITC is different and non-traditional. While
the traditional LITC is a physical presence in local communities
all across the country, we are proposing a “virtual”
LITC, that will be computer based to reach out to the affordable
housing industry.
